Thermomix BBQ Sauce – Pantry Staple Ingredients

Thermomix bbq sauce in black ramekin on black textured round placemat, on rustic black tabletop. Spoon in dish, Birdseye view

For years I’ve had requests for a Thermomix BBQ sauce! I’ve put it off for too long, it couldn’t be left any longer.

The reason I’ve not tried doing a BBQ sauce up until now, is the popularity of my Tomato Sauce. Years ago it went viral and it remains today the recipe of choice amongst many.

I knew that my BBQ sauce had to also be absolutely amazing and wasn’t sure I could make one to the same standard. Well, I’ve proven myself wrong.

Here, we have the ultimate BBQ sauce! The ingredients are simple, flavours are complex and moreish and the best bit – start to finish it’s ready in just half an hour.

Thermomix BBQ Sauce FAQs

This BBQ sauce is a great mix of flavours and a real time saver! Understandably, though, a recipe is merely a guide and sometimes you may have questions about altering to suit personal tastes.

I hope the following answers any queries you may have. Let me know if there’s anything I didn’t think of!

Can I make it smokier?

Absolutely, simply add a bit more smoked paprika – just a little at a time as it does go a long way.

Can I reduce the sugar content?

When creating this recipe, it did take me a couple of tries – the first time I used less sugar and no molasses and it was very tasty, but more a tomato sauce than a BBQ sauce.

So yes, you certainly can reduce the sugar and it will still be a lovely sauce. However, one of the ‘tricks’ to making a great tasting BBQ sauce, is that it does require a certain level of sweetening. So if it’s BBQ sauce you’re after, I recommend sticking to the quantities specified.

Can I use an alternative to coconut sugar?

I haven’t tried this, but I am fairly certain that brown sugar will work just as well!

Can I make it spicy?

For sure! Add some chilli powder or cayenne pepper – careful if you’re not used to using these ingredients, just a bit at a time as there’s no going back if you go too far with the spice!

Can I use fresh tomatoes instead of tinned?

You can, yes. If using fresh tomatoes, the sauce will need cooking longer as there is higher water content in fresh tomatoes, so increase the cook to 30 minutes, then check and cook longer if need be.

Ways to Use This Tasty Thermomix BBQ Sauce

This sauce is versatile and will go well in lots of things! Here are some ideas to get you started:

Try it as a burger sauce (it goes so well with the Cheesy Quinoa Burgers in Main Meals Made Easy!)

Use it as a marinade for your choice of protein.

Similarly, use it as a condiment on cooked proteins.

It makes a great sauce for burritos and enchiladas!

Use it as a dipping sauce (it’s especially good with sausage rolls – have you tried my Vegetarian Sausage Rolls? You’ll find the recipe in Lunches and Snacks Made Easy)

Our absolute favourite use for this BBQ Sauce… is using it as a pizza sauce (here, here and here are a few recipes for pizza bases)

I noticed this is tagged as “vegetarian”, but then saw it had Worcestershire sauce in it (not usually veg). Do you have any alternate suggestion to use?

Hi I’ve used fresh tomatoes in my last two batches. I just halve the tomatoes, cook for 20mins and then follow the above recipe. My family love this more than your tomato sauce which is a win for me because this is quicker 🙂
Thanks for another winner recipe!
