These homemade sesame bars are chewy, delicious little energy dense morsels! Similar to the chewy sesame bars you can buy from the supermarket (only with more goodness and no nasties) they’re a great snack.
The store-bought variety were something I loved as a kid. I have been wanting to try my hand at recreating them for ages. I’m so happy with how they turned out and I hope you love them too!
Whether it’s a snack to fight off hunger, a few bites with a cuppa, or just to cure a sweet craving, these homemade treats are hard to resist. Be careful, it can be hard to stop at one!
I’ve suggested dividing the recipe into 30 bars, but if preferred you can halve the size and make ‘bites’ instead of ‘bars’, to enjoy them for longer. They can be stored at room temperature or in the fridge. They also freeze and defrost well.

What is Nut Butter?
Nut Butter is a spread made from nuts which you can easily make at home with your thermal cooker or other high powered blender.
I’ve linked my ABC Nut Butter in the ingredients list as it is a great mix of nuts. However, if you’re low on nuts or just don’t want to make your own, you can use a store bought nut butter such as peanut butter.
Just a few Simple Steps to Homemade Thermomix Sesame Bars
First place sesame seeds, pepitas and sunflower seeds in a large frying pan. Give the nuts a quick chop in thermie, then add these to the pan too.
Toast until golden, similar to what you see below.
Meanwhile, warm up the honey, nut butter and tahini in your thermal cooker.
Then, add the toasted seeds and flaxseed into the thermal cooker. Mix. Transfer into a lined slice tin, or silicon slice form. Use a spatula to smooth the top and edges, then leave to set completely.
Once completely cooled and set, you can turn out from the slice tin/form and slice into portions.

Chewy Sesame Bars
- Line a slice tin with baking paper, or set aside a good quality silicon slice form.
- Place sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and pepitas in a large frying pan.
- Place nuts in mixer bowl. Chop 6 seconds/speed 5/MC on. Add to the seeds in frying pan. Toast on medium heat 6-8 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent burning, until sesame seeds are golden brown.
- Meanwhile, place honey, nut butter and tahini in mixer bowl. Cook 10 minutes/steaming temperature/speed 1/MC on.
- Add toasted seeds and nuts and flaxmeal. Combine 1.5 minutes/steaming temperature/speed 2/MC off.
- Working quite fast, transfer mixture to prepared slice tin. Use a spatula to press down the surface until compact and even. Leave to cool to room temperature before slicing into 30-60 pieces (depending on how much of a treat you'd like!)
- Store in an airtight container with baking paper in between each layer to prevent sticking.
