This simple Thermomix Chocolate Banana Custard is made from scratch, without the colours and flavours that custard powder contains.
Bananas and maple syrup are used to sweeten, making it healthier than the sugar-ladened versions too.
We all know that custard is something that thermal cookers do well. This version gets some fruit into the kids and like all of my recipes, caters for a wide range of dietary needs. It’s free from gluten and nuts and you can use your choice of milk, making it dairy free as well if need be.

FAQs for Chocolate Banana Custard
Hopefully I’ve thought of any questions you might have! If there is anything I haven’t covered, feel free to ask over on the Facebook group, or in the comments.
Do the leftovers keep well?
Yes. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
Can I halve the recipe?
Yes, this recipe can be halved. Cook it for 6 minutes. If it’s not ready then cook for the remaining minute.
What about doubling?
Doubling will be fine if you need a lot of custard! You will need to cook a little longer – 9 minutes should be sufficient.
Can I make this custard dairy free?
For sure! You can use whatever milk you normally use – soy, nut milks. Try my Cashew Coconut Milk!
How about vegan?
You can make this vegan by using a plant-based milk and leaving out the eggs. Increase the starch by an extra 20-40g, 40g making a very thick custard.
Can I leave out the cacao?
Yes, you sure can. Leave out the cacao powder for a plain banana custard.
Is this a thick custard?
It is a fairly thick custard, yes. However, it’s not that almost sliceable thickness that Thermomix custard can sometimes be. Instead, the banana keeps it very creamy, even when cold straight from the fridge.

Can u make it with out bananas?
Hi Bron, yes I’m sure it will be fine. You might like to increase the sweetener a bit to compensate and it may not be quite as thick is all. Enjoy 🙂
How much is this supposed to make? I halved it, but it doesn’t look like much at all. Now I’m wondering if I actually put 250ml milk in or if I put 150 ?

If I just wanted to use cornflour how much would I use?
We made it without any maple syrup and it was very yummy thank you
Yummo! This recipe was very well received! How long could you keep in the fridge? Can you freeze custard?!
I made this tonight and the kids LOVED it, luckily we have enough left over for the kids school lunch tomorrow!!!
I just made it and it is delicious. I had some frozen bananas so used them up. I had it with a little Greek yogurt and some crunchy granola.
