I first published this Healthy Chocolate Slice recipe on the Thermomix Recipe Community quite some time ago and later moved it across here to my blog.
Today I’ve made it again to get some nicer photos and add extra info for you to this post and what a lovely surprise…
I’d forgotten how good it was til I smelt the chocolatey goodness coming together! And not to mention quick – with about 5 minutes active time, it’s ready in a flash!
The base is chewy and the top, well, chocolatey! It’s very rich and decadent, so I’ve suggested cutting it into small pieces, splitting into about 20 portions.
You’ll notice a choice of cacao nibs, beans, or powder can be used in the base. Any of these will work well. Originally I hadn’t listed cacao powder but made it today using that because I know many Bexta’s have used this in the past when making it. I wanted to try myself before adding it on as an option.
Using cacao nibs or beans in the base will give you a bit more texture, the cacao powder makes it smoother. Other than that, the taste is quite similar.
How to Make Healthy Chocolate Slice in the Thermomix
There are two components to this slice: The chocolate base and the chocolate topping. For both components it’s a case of throwing all ingredients for that part in and blitzing them up, then transferring into the slice form/tin.
Chocolate Base
After blending together dates, almonds, cacao and coconut oil, press into a lined slice tin or silicon slice form.
Once you’ve scraped as much of the base mixture out of the bowl of your thermo, here’s a little trick. Put the bowl back on your machine and the lid on top. Turn speed up to 10 for a couple of seconds.
Check out how much more of the mixture comes off the blades and onto the sides for you to scrape out!
This is a thick mixture and the tool I use to do this is (in the photo below) is a silicon dough scraper. You can get similar results using wet hands.
Chocolate Topping
Clean and dry your mixer bowl, or if you’re lucky enough to have a second bowl, you can use that. Add into it coconut oil, cacao powder, honey and vanilla. Blitz. Pour onto the base, then smooth out the top.
Refrigerate until set, then slice and enjoy!
Healthy Chocolate Slice FAQs
What makes this healthier than other chocolate slices?
The ingredients are nutritious and with everything being raw, the nutrition isn’t cooked out.
Where do I buy things like Cacao and Raw Honey?
Most of the ingredients in this recipe can be purchased from your local supermarket. If you have trouble sourcing anything, you can also try health food stores, co-ops and even bee keepers for the honey.
If you’re a Perth local, I highly recommend checking out Pistachios Organic Pantry for ingredients. They have thousands of lines and actually stock everything for this recipe. Their pricing for many items is a lot cheaper than other places.
I don’t like the Flavour of Coconut, what can I use in place of the Coconut Oil?
You can buy flavourless coconut oils, like this one. Alternatively you can use cacao butter. You’ll have to melt cacao butter on a low heat first – make sure there is no trace of any water in the bowl if using cacao butter as this will cause issues.
Can I use Dried Dates instead of Medjool?
I’d say dried dates will work in place of Medjool dates. I’ve not tried it with them, so if you do please be sure to let us know how you go! You’ll need to soak them in boiling water before using and the soaked weight is what you’ll need to go by.
How Long will this Healthy Chocolate Slice Last?
In my house, not all that long hahaha But if you hide it well (in the freezer) and have good self control, it will actually last months.

This was yummy- but my topping turned into a big black glob with the coconut oil separating. What did I do wrong??
What could you use instead of the almonds if your making this delicious recipe nut free?
Hi Julie, I think any seeds would work, I’d be inclined to use a mix of pepitas and sunflower seeds. Would love to hear how this goes!
Thank you so much, the recipe turned out amazing! I used a LCA mix that was delicious! Love your work.
Hi, I just want to check is it liquid coconut oil?
Thanks
Hi Suzie, you want to use one that will solidify in the fridge. I hope you enjoy this!
Hi, what could you recommend in place of honey? I thought perhaps brown sugar, but that would affect the liquid component.
I would think the best sub would be something with a similar viscosity, so rice malt syrup. This will give the same consistency. It’s not as sweet so just taste before putting it together in case you need to add a bit more sweetener
